Buddy Bike Sport USA is an American-made, hand-built rear steering tandem bicycle with a quality steel frame for strength and a smooth ride. It includes the Classic Buddy Bike dual handlebar set up on the same stem and disc brakes plus one caliper brake for the stoker to provide braking power for safety. A lower front seat allows both riders to fully enjoy the view. Hybrid tires provide smooth riding on both paved and off-road trails. Buddy Bike Sport USA is designed Captains over 5'8". It offers the maximum distance between Buddy Bike rider seats for more rear rider leg room, 19.2" on Sport models vs. 17" on Family models, and a 73 degree Captain (rear rider) seat tube angle for a comfortable pedaling position for taller riders.
BUDDY BIKE FRAME: Buddy Bike Sport USA is built with an American-made steel frame by Bilenky Cycle Works. Stephen Bilenky is the Owner, Founder, and Designer at Bilenky Cycle Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Bilenky doesn’t just build bikes, he takes frame building as an art. He says, “I’m looking for a certain sense of flowing, quality, joinery of metal. It becomes art, craftsmanship.” Bilenky is most recently known for building the UK Friendship Bike which was gifted by President Joe Biden to then Prime Minister Boris Johnson in 2021.
CRANKSETS: The cranksets are provided by da Vinci Designs. They are known in the cycling industry for quality, American-made cranksets and made a crankset and drivetrain on a bicycle ridden by Denise Mueller-Korenek which crushed the motor-paced bicycle land speed world record in 2018 by traveling at 183.93 mph. WARNING: These speeds are not suggested as the Buddy Bike is a cruiser-type bicycle!
ENVIOLO HUB: Both cycling enthusiasts and novices will appreciate the simple functionality of the manual Enviolo Trekking CVP Drivetrain which provides seamless shifting and allows parents to focus on simply enjoying the ride with their child on the Buddy Bike. The Enviolo drivetrain allows riders to change the gear ratio between the pedals and rear wheel in one continuous motion. Just twist the controller slightly on the handlebar and the gear ratio is changed to any ratio within its range. This can be done while freewheeling, pedaling under load, or waiting at a stoplight. Enviolo hubs are self-contained systems which are practically maintenance-free. There are no skipped gears or concerns of a chain coming off the chain ring between gears. Smooth shifting and gear changes eliminate jolts to knees, hips and backs. Riders will tire less, ride longer, and feel better.
