BIKES FOR EVERY BODY - ADAPTIVE CYCLING RESOURCE
Wheelchair Bicycles
Wheelchair bicycles allow wheelchair-bound people to ride a bicycle with an able-bodied rider by using an installed wheelchair seat, by attaching a bicycle to an existing wheelchair, or by rolling a wheelchair onto a platform which is propelled by the bike rider. The wheelchair is in front on this type of bicycle. While these bicycles provide outdoor recreation and will help many home-bound individuals to get out into their communities, the wheelchair-bound rider will not actually pedal on these bikes.

There are also wheelchair attachments that add hand crank abilities or electric assist to wheelchairs.

Electric Assist: Most wheelchair bikes are designed to carry heavy loads including the bike, 2 riders and a wheelchair so most wheelchair bike manufacturers offer an electric assist option.
